Who is King Lemuel?

The last Chapter in the book of Proverbs begins, “The words of King Lemuel.” Ever heard of him….Probably not! So who is King Lemuel? Well let’s do some investigating. First, Lemuel is no where else named in Scripture. Second, there is no extra-biblical historical data to support that such a King ever reigned in Israel.

So who is Lemuel and why is he given credit for authoring a chapter in the Book of Proverbs?

Though King Lemuel’s identity is not officially known, Jewish tradition holds that King Lemuel is simply a poetic pseudonym for King Solomon. Lemuel in Hebrew means “For God.” Therefore, if true, Proverbs 31:1 may be read “The words of a King for God, the utterance which his mother taught him.”

If indeed Lemuel is Solomon, then the wisdom which is taught in Proverbs 31 was first taught to Solomon by his mother, Bathsheba. She is the women with whom King David committed adultery and whose husband, Uriah the Hittite, was killed in battle at the order of King David, Solomon’s Father.

“Change” For An Eternity!

The overwhelming theme leading up to today’s election has been “Change.”  And that is exactly what I saw in the millions of faces whom today made “Change” a reality.  No I am not speaking of political change though that is also evident.  But rather, I witnessed millions of men and women who call this great country their home forcefully change the moral direction of America forever.

No longer is the free exercise of Judeo-Christian beliefs important, no longer are traditional family values important, no longer is the sanctity of marriage and life important. In fact, I have come to grips with the following reality:  I now live in a country where the majority of people do not value what I value, they do not prize what I prize, they do not serve whom I serve, they do not love whom I love, they are not willing to defend what I will defend to the death.

And this holds true for all of us who hold to the belief that this Country was founded by Christian men and women who desired a land where they could freely exercise their devotion unto Christ.  That dream it would seem is quickly fading away!

However, one truth remains constant. Our God is the Alpha (Beginning) and the Omega (End) and He will have the final say.  My “Hope” is not in America, not in its future leader but my hope is firmly anchored in the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth, the son of a carpenter, the Messiah of Israel, the Savior of the World, God in the Flesh.

Tonight one might say, one small step for mankind…one giant leap toward eternity.

Maranatha!

In The Beginning God…

The Bible begins by stating very simply that in the beginning God.  I was not in the beginning and neither were you or anyone else for that matter.  But in the beginning God.  Therefore because He was the only one present in the beginning, He is the only one qualified to instruct us in regards to the beginning of life, the reason for our existence and the meaning of life.

He has done so through His Word, the Holy Bible comprised of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and New Testament.

  1. We are told that in the beginning God created everything by His Spoken Word in six days and that on the seventh day He rested.

Gen 2:1-3
Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

  1. We are told that the reason for our existence is to become His loving, obedient Children through Faith in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 1:3-6
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

  1. We are told that one may find the meaning of life when they lose their life for Jesus sake.  Only when a person loses their life will they actually find it.

Matthew 16:24-26
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Do you believe that in the beginning God?  Do you believe that God created you to be His child?  Do you believe that if you surrender your life to follow Christ that only then will you find the meaning of life?

If you have not yet laid your life down do not delay!  Right now you can lay down all your wants, ambitions and desires at the feet of Jesus.

Remember the Lord’s Prayer for the Disciple…Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Your Kingdom Come, Your Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven…
